Tasting Notes: Oh so floral
This wine is a blend of Chardonnay & Marsanne It is intense and oh so floral. It’s extremely enjoyable with citrus fruit running through, with hints of cinnamon and honey.
Background Information: The Wirruna Estate vineyard is located on the shore of Lake Hume in north east Victoria. They are a boutique winery specialising in three varieties - Shiraz, Marsanne and Durif, along with a small amount of Chardonnay.
The bottle label shows the view overlooking the vineyard at sunset, hence the name "Wirruna" - an aboriginal word for sunset.
The vineyard was established in 1997, when we planted 2,500 Shiraz and 500 Durif vines all grafted on Californian rootstock. In 2000 they planted a further 500 Durif and 2000 Marsanne vines, all grafted on Californian rootstock.
The grapes are hand picked in March/April of each year, by friends and family. The wine is made on site at the Wirruna Estate by the owner/winemaker - John Woodhouse. The two whites are bottled young and fresh and do not see any wood at all. The reds are basket pressed, matured in French Oak for 12 months and are neither fined nor filtered before bottling in order to maintain the complex flavours.
