Blackberry, chocolate and mint aromas are followed by a palate that is fine and restrained, showing spice, sweet cherry and prune-like flavours.
Background Information: The 2004 vintage in South Australia was fantastic. There is talk that generally the quality of fruit coming off the vines was as good as the much heralded 1998.
Particularly in the Coonawarra region, there has been talk that the 2004 Coonawarra vintage has produced its best wines since the brilliance of the years of ’99, ’98, ’96, ’91 and ’90.
These wines were sourced from a very big player, in the Coonawarra region. It is one of the largest contract winegrowers and suppliers in Coonawarra, selling more than half its grape production to others, and still producing 100,000 cases under their own labels.
The winery take Coonawarra Cabernet very seriously, releasing five wines starting at $17 retail through to their flagship wine which sells at approx. $80.
