Tasting Notes: Blackcurrant & Cassis
Cassis, mint and eucalyptus aromas, jump from the glass of this youthful wine. The palate is big and bold, and simply all blackcurrant and cassis supported by good tannin structure and appropriate oak.
Background Information: A couple of years ago we purchased 500 cases of a very young 2008 Langhorne Creek Shiraz from the same mob that make this wine. To this day we still have some clients asking for more of the same. Once we sold out we pleaded with the winery for more stock, but they laughed at us and implied we were lucky to get even the 500 cases. They released the wine under a label called ‘Winemakers Choice’ which is a label used for small, special parcels. In the latest Halliday book James rated this Langhorne Creek Shiraz very favourably with a 90 point rating.
Well this Coonawarra Cab is exactly the same scenario. The winery has just bottled the wine, and has allocated 1000 cases to us. They will release the wine under the ‘Winemakers Choice’ label towards the middle of the year. We’ll watch out for any ratings, once released.
So the upshot to all this is, this is a very good quality wine.
