Tasting Notes: The 2006 vintage is very classy, beautifully structured wine. True to its variety, the wine is deep, black and brooding in colour. The nose shows bright fresh aromas of spice, licorice and black currants. We have purposely kept the new oak component at a minimum to allow the vibrant fruit characters of the vintage to elevate. We especially love the palate of this wine, in particular the warmth, length and velvet silkiness it delivers. An awesome, delicious wine. Enjoy!
Background Information: Groom Wines are a very small family winery situated in the famous Barossa Valley region. The Barossa Valley is the source of our Shiraz. With its hot, dry conditions and fairly level valley floor and undulating hills, this appellation is generally recognized as the best red wine district in Australia. Our Kalimna property is located next door to the traditional Penfolds Grange “mother source” vineyard. The unforgiving soils of this area are well known to produce very low yields, loose clusters and extremely small berries. Classic, ultra premium Shiraz territory!
