Tasting Notes: Medium - bodied. Crimson in colour showing licorice, sweet red and black fruit on the nose. The palate shows fresh plum dark cherries, white pepper and spice with a hint of eucalypt and ripe tannins.
This little beauty is ready to rock and roll.
Background Information: This is from one the best Shiraz producers in Australia, easily in the top 10. They specialise in Shiraz and have a huge following in Australia and overseas. They produce 3 tiers with their premium tipping the scales at over $100 and their entry level at around the $16 mark.
This wine is their entry level, under Crossroads, one of our brands. We purchased a considerable amount unlabelled. The opportunity came about as they had a big and lucrative export order cancelled. What is bad news for them is great news for us and of course our customers.
The winey has not released this wine on to the domestic market yet but the previous four vintages were given 90+ points by James Halliday in his annual Wine Companion. Not bad hey?
The wine is made of selected parcels of fruit from Swan Hill, Grampians and the Pyrenees. The winemaker notes that the grapes from the warmer north provide immediate fruit weight, a burst of dark fruit, whilst the cooler climate structured Shiraz of the Grampians and Pyrenees provides back palate with opulent structure, aromas and perfume that linger.
