Tasting Notes: Roasted Coffee
It has a deep red/purple colour and quality oak is noticeable on the nose. There are juniper berry and mulberry aromas, along with strong vanilla bean. The palate shows regional blackberry and a hint of mint along with a roasted coffee and almond intensity. This wine has a medium term cellaring potential, and would be at its best in 2016.
Background Information: We are proud to put this wine under our house brand. It is sourced from a Coonawarra family with over 100 years of history in the region. Up to 1988 they grazed cattle on the prized terra rossa soil and in 1998 released their first wine, at $100 if you don’t mind.
They now have 400 acres under vine, mainly Cabernet with small plots of Merlot and Shiraz. They have the best winemaker in the region, and one of the most regarded in this country crafting the wines and in the vineyard they have a preference for minimal use of fertilisers.
