Tasting Notes: This is ripe and packed with red berry fruit. It smells of blood plum and raspberry along with spicy oak. The palate is medium bodied exhibiting ripe flavours of mulberry along with a hint of fresh herbs. It has quite a silky texture, with soft tannins and well integrated oak from 10 months of maturation.
Background Information: Sandro Audino is the man behind Argyle Wines. Sandro is a character in the true sense. For many years he worked the floor at the Italian institution that is Florentino’s restaurant, being one of their head waiters. He leaves an impression wherever he goes and he has a passion for Italian food and red wine.
He is now selling wine to many Italian restaurants around Melbourne and through his long friendship with Heathcote Winery has come up his own brand to sell. The Argyle Shiraz & Merlot are single vineyard releases from fruit off Heathcote Winery’s own vineyards. They are well made in a fruit forward Heathcote style and are extremely friendly in price.
These are his first releases and we believe they are absolute winners, look out for more to follow. This quality could easily sell for $25 plus. Sandro is a realist and he is aware that there are many new brands out there at that price so he’d rather get his wines out there under $20. For a single vineyard Heathcote wine $15 is a superb buy.
