Tasting Notes: This is an expressive and floral wine with loads of fresh flower aromas and a palate that is very upfront with tangy orange, white peach and nectarine flavours.
Background Information: This is the first Riesling we’ve sourced from Margaret River, and after looking at the tank sample a couple of weeks ago, we don’t know why we’ve waited so long. It looks very similar to a typically floral Great Southern Riesling.
What this wine does show us is that the region can offer a hell of a lot more than Semillon / Sauv Blanc blends and Chardonnay. We had to a have a good hard think about how many other Margaret River Rieslings we could come up. Off the top of our heads this is the list of the ones we could think of:
Sandalford – around $20.00 a bottle
Leeuwin Art Series – over $20.00 a bottle
Ashbrook Estate - around $20.00 a bottle
Clairault – around $20.00 a bottle
The trend we are seeing here is that the Margaret River wineries interested in releasing a Riesling believe it should sit around the $20.00 retail price. At $10.00 this wine is extraordinary value. So if you’re a Riesling fan and you’re struggling to find a sub $15.00 wine to quench your thirst, this is it.
